What would you do if your parents told you that you were a princess? Okay, so that question has already been answered by Meg Cabot. Throw in the fact that said prince is a vampire then you got an interesting set up for a novel. Jessica is just your every day American girl. Will Jessica accept her destiny or will she make her own faith? The set up for this novel was fantastic.

Sure, Jessica comes from a line of vampires and is betrothed to a vampire prince. But the overall vampire mythology here is lacking. I will give Fantaskey kudos for the relationship between Jessica and Lucius. You got to see what both of them thought of each other.

When she gets to school, he’s there in her English Lit class, an exchange student from Romania called Lucius Veldescu, domineering the teacher and, again, watching her. It’s when he turns up for dinner at her parents farm that things get really freaky – especially when he claims he’s a vampire prince and she’s a vampire princess and his betrothed, that they must marry to fulfil the pact so that war doesn’t break out between their clans Determined to think Lucius is crazy as well as charming, arrogant, attractive and, yes, dangerous, Jessica refuses to let him have his way even if he does seem to have her parents on his side.

Until he’s nearly killed by a horse and then starts dating cheerleeder-blonde-bitch extraordinaire, Faith Crosse, Jessica thought she could get rid of him and be happy settling for “nice” and simple Jake; now the pact is being threatened by Lucius himself, who no longer seems to want her, just as she discovers how much she wants to be a part of his world. It’s a fairly obvious thing to point out that this book is aimed at all the teen Twilight fans out there.

Let’s cover this so we can move past it.

Oct 19,  · Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side was a pretty good book. Lucius and Jessica were a cute couple. Lucius and Jessica were a cute couple. When they were first getting to know each other I laughed when Jessica doubted him being a vampire/5.

I’d definitely pick up a younger actor for Lucius but I couldn’t find anyone who fits my idea of him, so I thought of a young Hayden Christensen. Dorin is supposed to be fat and bold, but before reading his description I thought of him like Matthew Macfadyen. Let me know what you think! Yeah, keep it Undo Close. This video is unavailable. Book Review: Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side

The undead can really screw up your senior year. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side has been sitting on my bookshelf waiting to be read for what seems like ages now, but after reading an early copy of the author’s second novel, Jekel Loves Hyde coming May ; I highly suggest you pre-order it now! As it turns out, Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side was even better than Jekel Loves Hyde, amazingly enough, and a book that I was truly sad to see come to an end; a feeling that I haven’t felt in a long time towards a book.

Since I loved nearly everything about it:

Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side (Jessica, #1), The Wedding of Antanasia Jessica Packwood and Lucius Valeriu Vladescu (Jessica, #), and Jes.

High school senior Jessica Packwood is a down-to-earth mathlete with a murky future. What she definitely doesn’t see coming is foreign exchange student–and vampire– Lucius Vladescu showing up at her door. According to Lucius, Jessica is actually vampire royalty, and they’ve been betrothe to one another since infancy. That’s just what a girl wants to hear. And, after all, Lucius may be arrogant, but he’s easy to look at. Unfortunately, Jessica’s not the only girl in school who’s noticed.

If she can hold off the evil cheerleaders long enough, she might just find a future with Lucius–and save his sould from eternal damnation. Author Beth Fantaskey injects a little humor into the vampire romance genre with this critically acclaimed debut, while narrators Katherine Kellgren and Jeff Woodman capture Jessica and Lucius’ colorful personalities.

Poor Jessica has enough issues with being odd chickie out what with being a ‘mathlete’, has vegans for parents and is an adopted child with a foggy foreign past. I enjoyed watching the progression of the cautious and irritated Jessica dealing with the arrogant and pushy Lucius as he ‘courted’ Jessica. And then the tables started turning as Jessica realized what she was becoming and how she felt about Lucius and Lucius started courting other girls and enjoying his Americanized life.

Review: Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey

Or so she thinks, because Jess originally came from Romania, given to her adoptive parents by her own parents when they were about to be killed by torch-wielding peasants. The Packwoods saved her from the mob and took her back to America to raise her. But while raising her, they told her about her past, in fairly general terms.

She can do SO much better then him. Otherwise I disagree with what Einmyria wrote sorry, Einmyria. Like s sportsbookspce Apr 27, I really liked this book. I found the dialogue between Jessica and Lucius real and at times extremely funny. I also liked how their relationship wasn’t perfect and when you thought it was going to work out, there was another twist.

Lucius was a very interesting character. He was dark at times and other times he was very kind in his own way. Overall, a great book. I liked it, then I hated it, then I liked it note: Thank you Lucius, I never would have come to a conclusion were it not for your douchebaggery.

Book Review: Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side

In a completely original storyline that we’ve never seen before Jessica discovers one day that she is not a normal teenager but is, in fact, a vampire Princess bound by contract to marry a repugnant, spoiled, aristocratic prince, Lucius Vladescu. He does not approve of her at all Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side is an imaginative, immersive when will the world realize this is a word? I swear, I’m not trying to draw a parallel between this book and certain movies I just like the image

Beth Fantaskey @bethfantaskey I’m the author of Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side, Jessica Rules the Dark Side, Jekel Loves Hyde, Buzz Kill and Isabel Feeney, Star Reporter.

Jessica is just a normal teenager who is a senior in high school with the usual normal teenage problems: That is until the weird Romanian exchange student shows up and turns her life upside down. Now, she has been informed from Lucius, the dark and mysterious Romanian stranger, she is a supposed Romanian Princess and he is her betrothed. Oh, did I mention they both are vampires and they have to get married due to a 17 year old pact? If they don’t fulfill the pact, their two families will wage a war against one another and countless vampire and human lives will be lost.

Taken aback by this news, Jessica refuses to believe what has been told to her and she goes on living whatever normal life she has left while Lucius continues to pine for her affections. As she starts feeling something for Lucius, he starts turning away from her. He becomes more dark-More dangerous. Somewhere along the way between finding out who she really is, feeling strange things both mentally and physically, and a whole lot of teenage drama, Jessica learns to be the person she is meant to, but is it too late to save Lucius from himself?

I have seen a lot of reviews on this book my many different book blogs and I thought I would give it a try. I feel bad because I really haven’t divulged into different authors in a very long time-I was comfortable with my old stand byes. However, that being said and with me exploring new ‘territory’ so to speak, I really enjoyed this book! It was a quick read for me and even though there was a lot of themes I have seen in other books I have read over the years, the characters and storyline where solid throughout the whole book.

Paperback I’ve recently gone off vampires, mainly thanks to my past obsession with Twilight and the cringe factor that the movies brought with it I’ve turned closet fan now!! However there are a few selected books that centre around vampires – Vampire Academy for one, that I do enjoy. Now, I can add this fantastic book by Beth Fantaskey to that list. A time to worry about boys namely to cute farmer boy who keeps making eyes at you , bullies in the form of antagonising boys and evil cheerleaders and finding out that you are a Romanian vampire princess, betrothed to a hot vampire prince.

At least, that’s what happens to the always thought she was your average American teenager, Jessica Packwood.

Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side is another one of those books that I had wanted to read for a really long time, but never got to it until now. I love vampires, but I’m kind of the fence about this one/5().

Lucius opened his mouth slightly, and I felt the faintest touch of his fangs touching my skin just above the spot where my blood pulsed strongest. I just wanted to feel them. In my mouth, my own teeth began to ache. That delicious, delirious agony of something struggling so hard to be born. I mean, come on, vampires? Insert big, loud snorting noise here. So that means that her parents must have gone crazy, and the guy with the hypnotizing stare and ancient disposition must be some kind of crack pot.

Lucius enrols at her school and wins everyone over. Well, everyone with ovaries, anyway. He follows Jess everywhere, holds the door open for her, buys her lunch, defends her honor — gah!

February 2, Pages: The undead can really screw up your senior year. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: This book was a lot of fun and I was surprised how refreshing it was to read compared to other vampire books. Jessica was an interesting character to follow. She seemed a little childish at parts, but overall surprised me at the end.

I liked the whole idea of being born a vampire and how there is more too it than just being bitten. The guide, “Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire’s Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions” was a really fun touch to Fantaskey’s book; however, my favorite part of the entire book was reading Lucius’s letters to his uncle. The rest of the book focuses more on Jessica, but the letters give real insight into Lucius.
